Obviously, some house fences are going to cost more than others, depending on the type of material they’re constructed out of. Though the bottom line for homeowners is their budgets, you largely get what you put into a home improvement. You get what you pay for, in other words.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the biggest, most expensive fences are the best ones. Some of the more cost-effective house fences might be perfect for what you want or need.

Here are a few of the most common types of house fences to help you figure out what material would be best for your home.

Chain Link Fences.

Chain link fencing is perhaps the most affordable type of fencing out there, costing about $7 per foot to install. Plus, it’s not only budget-friendly, but it’s also very low-maintenance and easy to install. On the downside, chain link house fences aren’t exactly the most aesthetic looking fences out there. However, a coat of paint or a plastic veneer can make them much more friendly looking, but could also increase the budget.

Wooden Fences.

Wood fencing is only a little bit more expensive, costing between $9 to $15 per foot, but it’s also much more attractive than chain link fencing is. What’s more, these house fences also offer more protection and privacy, perfectly enclosing a yard. On the downside, they do require a bit of seasonal maintenance. If left untended, these house fences will rot and fall to ruin, thusly squandering your investment. If you just want to have a fence installed and not worry about it any more after that, these house fences probably aren’t for you.

Vinyl Fences.

Vinyl house fences are basically the low-maintenance alternative to wood fences. They’re equally aesthetic, but they’re also weather-resistant, more durable, and lower-maintenance. If anything, they just need to be hosed down every once in a while. On the downside, these house fences do cost a bit more. In fact, vinyl fencing costs about $20 per foot.

Wrought Iron Fences.

Wrought iron fences are, perhaps, the best type of fencing. They’re elegant and incredibly aesthetically pleasing, lending an air of sophistication to whatever home they’re built around. Since they’re made out of iron, they require little to no maintenance (apart from the occasional check for rust) and are incredibly durable. Naturally, they’re also the most expensive type of fencing out there, costing as much as $30 per foot.

If you want something practical but low cost, get a chain link fence. If you want something low cost but more aesthetic, get a wood fence. If you want something that’s more aesthetic, but low maintenance, get a vinyl fence. If money isn’t really an object, get a wrought iron fence.
