Don’t Let the Rain Water Ruin Your Basement
Does your basement leak when it rains? If so, you may want to invest in interior and exterior basement waterproofing. This will ensure that water won’t be able to seep through the cracks and fill up your basement.
But the best defense you have against flooding in your basement is a basement sump pump. These are electrical devices that draw water into a basin, and flush the water out through a pipe. When the water reaches a certain level, the pump kicks in, and pushes the water out.
You may also want to consider getting a battery backup sump pump as well. This will be critical during a rainstorm if the power goes out. As soon as the battery backup sump pump senses that your existing pump fails, it will kick in.
Here are a couple of other things you can do to keep your things safe even with these precautions.
- Move Furniture. It would be best to keep a distance between the basement walls and your furniture. This will save your furniture from significant water damage if water does start to trickle in. You could also try to place a raised flooring beneath the furniture to make sure that it stays out of the way of any water.
- Lift Electrical Cords. You will also want to take any wires that are lying around and roll them up so that you don’t have any loose wires hanging around if water leaks in. There’s no need to endanger your family.
So along with waterproofing exterior basement walls and interior ones, be sure to do your best to maximize the safety of your home.
